We have two nurses who are able to provide essential medical support with daily availability during opening hours. Additionally, a doctor is accessible for appointments on Thursday afternoons. We aim to ensure comprehensive care is available for young individuals with both routine and more specialised medical needs.
We have an initial Gender Affirming Health Care Assessment (GAHC) Pathway that we can offer and a good working relationship and pathway with other community providers and prescribers. We have a range of resources for help with packing, binding, GAHC websites and resources and can help administer testosterone and oestrogen.
We can provide blood tests in the clinic and refer you to other relevant services that you need. For example, we could refer you to radiology for an ultrasound, physiotherapy for assessment etc.
Our doctor can provide off-work certificates and ACC paperwork provided we have the relevant information, and it is necessary/related to your current health.
We can provide some medications in the clinic and our doctor is able to prescribe those we aren’t able to dispense. Please note – we are unable to start you on medication if we have not seen you before and need proof of your prescription if you are coming to us from another GP/service.
We are currently able to provide: – oral contraception options (COCP – combined oral contraceptive pill and POP – progestogen only pill), – Depo Provera injection, the emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) – Condoms – Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening – both with self-swabbing options, blood tests and treatment – PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) which is an extremely effective HIV prevention method that needs to be taken prior to having sexual intercourse – Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing (recently known as the smear test). This can be done by a nurse or doctor, or you can choose to take the sample yourself – FREE pregnancy package starting from the first pregnancy test. We can support you in any way you need and we do this by: - Taking the blood tests and any screening tests required in clinic - Offer support finding and connecting with a midwife - Starting on Folic Acid and Iodine for baby’s growth - Our baby started gift pack - Help with a few little knitted goodies to get you started - We can give all pregnancy vaccines - Follow up visits - And we always love seeing babies so come in and show your little bundle to us and ask any questions you may have
Social workers and counsellors provide professional assistance to those experiencing difficulties in their lives and in their communities. What we can do to help is, meet with you, and anyone you would like to support you, to discuss what you see as the issues you need help with and plan how we can work together to overcome the challenges you face and find new ways and skills to manage these issues so you can move forward with what is important to you in the face of these challenges. Social workers can work with other organisations and professions to achieve the goals you have set and can support you at meetings – if you want us to - to bring your voice to plans that are about you and your needs. We can also refer you to other services if our service is not able to meet your identified needs. In short, we work together with you to help you learn new skills and strategies to manage life’s challenges.
We can provide Nurse and GP care around: - Health Education - Basic hygiene education - General health assessments - Refer you to specialist services as needed - Vaccines - Smears
